Museum Bridge

"Over hundred years old arch bridge is one of the most spectacular sights in the area."
Two-arch stone bridge
The bridge is two-arch stone bridge. Its length is 28,3 m, width 6,9 m and free spans 2 x 8,3 m.

The site of the bridge lies on the medieval Satakunta-Pohjanmaa Royal Road.
Built in 1887
The decision to build the bridge was taken at the parish meeting of Merikarvia and Siikainen in 1884.

Householder Maurits Tuorila got the contract for construction of the bridge in an auction that was held on 17.10.1885.

The payment was 9395 marks and the contract specified that the foundation of the bridge had to be excavated to the depth of two cubits (approx 1,2m) and one hundred talents (approx 850kg) of iron had to be used for the bridge.

The work started in 1886 and the bridge completed in July 1887.
Former gathering place
The bridge used to be a public meeting place and the scene of games, dances and fights.
In the use of traffic until 1960
When the new bridge for trunk Road 8 was constructed in 1960, the old bridge became a part of the resting area.
Accepted for preservation in 1987
The Museum Bridge got its own sign in 1987, when it became 100 years old and was officially accepted for preservation.

Nowadays in the use of strollers

Museum Bridge was closed entirely from motor traffic in June 2002 when the recreation area was restructured.
